Interesting point re DADT and the reason I don't mention it is because I think it's vastly overdone in SGA. I don't personally find it an interesting plotline and I honestly don't think that people who battle the wraith and are in another galaxy completely care that much about homophobic US military regulations on a different planet. I doubt it would factor into *Rodney's* view of this situation in this particular story, although it might give John pause for thought, more in passing than anything else. But SGA is a fantastical kind of show, and sticking so slavishly to the letter of DADT, as a lot of fics do, seem to me to ignore the fact that the show itself isn't a stickler for such factual details.

Also, General O Neill is mentioned in "Rising" as being a maverick who has broken many military rules - are we assuming the only one the US military would care about would be DADT? That he can do everything else but that one is the one they'd care about? It's made clear on the show that both O Neill and Sheppard are mavericks who follow their own path - hard to see that they'd care more about DADT than any of the other rules and regulations either. Being mavericks is their mojo after all!

Sorry for the rant but this is part of a wider issue that I have Opinions on *g*. You see, for some people DADT fic is clearly a kink, like spanking's a kink for me - they can't get enough of it and they write it endlessly and that's FINE - but that doesn't mean it's necessarily more realistic to address it in fiction than stories that don't, just because it's their kink. They can SAY DADT is important but we have no evidence from SGA that anyone cares a rat's ass about it - this is an unusual kind of military after all, as it has spaceships and wormholes to other galaxies etc. This is not a realistic military show - like JAG for example, where one might expect DADT to be important. It's simply not that kind of a universe!

I think I've finished....*g*
