I held off on reading until it was complete but then real life happened *sob* at the most inconvenient time so I only finished the story now. And that? Was AMAZING. So effing amazing. I wasn't sure at first how there was enough story material to write 12 whole chapters but I underestimated how much drama follows Tony around (not his fault! *squishes* okay, maybe a little bit...) and now it feels too short which is kinda weird.
I saved away my favorite lines at first but the text file kept getting longer and longer so I'd end up quoting the whole fic at this rate. I enjoyed seeing how Gibbs and Tony met, the birth of the headslaps and the daily spankings, how he wasn't BFFS immediately with Abby, how Gibbs was friends with Morrow, how Morrow was a good boss that Gibbs respected regardless of their dynamics. I loved that HR was involved in the hiring! IDK, little details about how an office really works matter a lot to me.
There are some things in HiPS that you told more than showed so I'm glad you showed Tony with Jake. You showed how easy it is for Tony to manipulate tops and it brought home how Gibbs really is a good match for him. I also loved how bits of pop culture are different in this 'verse like Subs in the City and Phantom of the Opera. The tying up of the ending to HiPS with the mention of hiding in plain sight and Tony flirting with other tops was something I was glad for. It was also nice to see this 'verse outside of the military-ish setting of Atlantis.
Others have explained better than me what they like about this 'verse but for me I really like the being out of the closet (so to speak) about bisexuality and bdsm. It's a fun fantasy that everyone's into kink and I don't have to hide my collar in real life. I adore that you write grand epic romances. I mean, I also like darker nitty gritty stories but sometimes the romantic bodice ripper approach is exactly what I want to go with my kink. Thank you so much for writing this story!!!
P.S. You mentioned there being a separate locker room for subs which made me wonder what the locker room arrangements are when they're still teenagers and most have yet to discover their dynamic. Switches and non-dynamics would also have to deal. It's just something I couldn't help thinking about because I read several high school based fandoms, lol.
