This chapter was great for changing scenes ... all the public interactions. It really flowed along.
The beautiful collared sub claiming was so romantic – a classic scene but tailored to the two. I loved the panther image feasting on his sub’s body as prey and Rodney offered up naked and spread. And marking! It’s just so hot and possessive. I can never get enough of that *g*
Loved the name – Collar Bay – it does fit with the explorer theme when European sailors named new places for events that happened there or for onboard ship life. Nice touch.

I think the thing I most took from this chapter is the idea that Rodney can truly give it up to John precisely for the fact that his love for Rodney DOES have that dark edge – that it’s the dark edge that allows Rodney to trust. This is just such a wonderful expression of their dynamic and perfect complementarity.
I personally prefer white gold. I know yellow gold is considered the most precious but I love the associations of white gold and the silver colour with the moon and the starry night. To me it hold such mystery. My own wedding ring was white gold and I named my son after a character in a book in which white gold had a significant meaning and power. Is this the collar Rodney was wearing in G&DS? Or is there a new one for the buckling the belt ceremony? But in the larger picture I loved all the individual reactions to the happy event! They were by turns funny and sad and serious - perfect for each character. Teyla – revealing her practical insights into John’s psyche - wise and respectful! Ford – not a surprise because his digs at Rodney always irritated me, so I really could get behind them and I wonder about how that’s going to pan out if niggles away at that? Carson – misses nothing, sentimentally happy and mischievous for denying him his romantic story! What a darling! I love Carson! Miko – wow she’s quite fierce isn’t she? That internal steel shines out here. Also for future reference, the Japanese don’t really do anything other than bow deeper to show respect to the higher status one. Sometimes, lol, their head ends up at knee level *g* Radek- I didn’t see this coming (though I should have!) but it was great to see this subversive aspect of Radek fleshed out and the difficulties, given his “perversion”, and what seems like quite a political perspective in sharing Rodney’s happiness. Quite some interesting personal and social questions raised here. Elizabeth - I loved the loyalty and concern she showed! I adored this line "Because you are too important to this expedition, and to me, personally, for you to be unhappy. Her story of Simon fits so well for their society and it made me quite sad for her. Her story was very poignant and sharing this to teach Rodney something from her own experience made her a wise and honourable person in my eyes. It was all just perfect.
