John’s primal chapter. I love that it centres on touch – how it’s as essential to John’s life as food is to Rodney. So very hot and romantic, possessive and needy and desperate and primal! I love the contrasts between John’s violent need to repossess to reconnect and Rodney’s essential gentleness. I love that Rodney could give back what John needed – especially with his body and submission but also in just who he is – by talking to him constantly and calming in a quiet reassuring way. He really was the rock in John’s storm.
I see this as about John’s fear of being helpless, to protect and save his sub, his loved ones, his family. John fears death in a way that is different from Rodney’s. It’s a much more deeply seated and personal fear of loss than Rodney’s more on the sleeve sense of shock and his compassion for others when hurt or lost.
On the kaeira … I particularly loved the contrast between the imagery of ”the warm sweetness .. that flows” and the darkness, and how that warm sweetness advances and recedes as a tide as it tries to break through and when it finally does, it’s blinding! I also really liked that your word choice hole instinctively matches with John’s primal basic need. No sexy or eloquent synonym for this scene … and it was just right!
On the humour … I loved the alliteration and all Rodney’s reactions to Cosmo. I loved Miko too and Rodney’s thought about her having “a crush on his brain”
"I'm fine. I was incredibly brave and noble though," LOL! I love how Rodney keeps milking it with Carson, upping his bravery with "I had no idea whether the shield would protect me at all!”,
Oh I loved John losing it in the infirmary! The emotions and touch deprivation and Carson touching what’s his finally bubbled right over for John. Loved the following balcony scene for it’s mirror of our John’s scene after they got back from the mission to get the crystals in G&DS. God, the General must have been so thinking déjà vu in G&DS on that one!
Off to read the next chapter! I know I’ve missed things I wanted to note – like how you turned the first time the shield dropped off Rodney into something about courage rather than cowardice (Thank you for that!) This was just the most powerful scene! I loved it to bits but then I think I loved the matching one in G&DS after the general and Rodney get back from the mission
