While my mom is not into the BDSM stories, and at one point was even a little worried that I was, she is also open minded and willing to listen to people's opinions. So I was trying to explain how it was about more than whips and chains, and how the stories I read weren't demeaning at all and in fact often had a moral lesson in there somewhere. She may not agree with me but she always wants to try to understand me. The following is a conversation I had with her when I was in high school that sums up our relationship perfectly.
me: Would you punish me if dyed my hair purple?
mom: No, its your hair you can do what you want. I just reserve the right to laugh at you.
