Thanks for your great feedback, cmaree. I wanted to show a gradual progression with the characters - neither John nor Rodney could be how they were in GADS. It was interesting to see that emerging though - hence the enormous length of the story! And I LOVED what you said about the spanking being an awakening - that's exactly it. Rodney needed it very much I think so it wasn't necessarily a bad thing to have happened to him.

And yes, the out of control thing is another nod to GADS. I figure that's something he finds very hard and struggles with - more on that - a *lot* more, coming up!
